Space-time Warp Drives
Space-time warp (STW, pronounced "stew") drives are a type of Alcubierre drive. They utilize the mass of the ship to “flow” downhill within a warp bubble. Larger ships require more energy to create the warp bubble but can travel faster and more efficiently over longer distances. STW drives are typically used on large ships that require both speed and flexibility in where they can travel. This makes them ideal for large military capital ships. They are also used on large cargo ships and small civilian craft that require versatility but not speed. Massive STW ferries are used to transport HSD ships between hyperspace lanes.
Social Impact
STW drives were the first type of engine capable of FTL travel invented. They allowed for the expansion of humanity beyond the Sol system.
Access & Availability
STW drives are readily available for both military and commercial use. Only the wealthiest private citizens can afford their own STW drives.

STW drives are typically powered by antimatter.
