The Hermian Academy of Science

The Hermian Academy of Science was founded in 249 by King Gherard of Mercury, and immediately began recruiting teachers and students from across Mercury. All Hermian students took mandatory placement tests, and around 250 each years were brought to the academy. There were few parents who were unwilling to give their children to the school (such as Travis O'Connor's), but they were all either imprisoned or killed.

Courses taught include Advanced Design, Astrophysics, Atomic Physics, Advanced Design, Basic Strategic theory, Biology, Socionics, Spaceship Engineering, Quantum Chemistry, and several others.

The School was originally run by the Hermian Kings, and its last headmaster Queen Emma Kubler , abandoned her duties to wage war across the Solar System. That being true, the modern school has a poor reputation. After the War of Stars, the School underwent drastic changes. The newly founded Hermian council was given control of the facility, and students are no longer forced to attend. The school remains one of the most prestigious in the Solar System, famous for its inventors, many of which contributed to the Hermian war, or later the War of Stars. The Hermian Academy of Science is the only Hermian facility still under native rule.

Given its delicate position after the War, many Hermians look to the academy as a way to redeem their culture after the war, and the Interplanetary Governance Council has allowed the school to exist without interruption to pacify the local populace.

The Academy is famous for its prestigious teachers, each among the best in the Solar system in their respective fields. Most of the foremost human minds live on or around Mercury, and teach personally at the academy and virtually to various campuses around the Solar System. Historically, the school's faculty have been forbidden from outside activities such as politics or business, and several have been expelled from the school after being discovered engaging in activities deemed unfit for a teacher.

The school is currently spread across a five square kilometer campus just outside Hermes Base. The school also owns several rotating bases in orbit, some of which are used to traverse the Solar System on research expeditions. Currently hosting 28,000 students, the school boasts a student base from all across the Solar System, mostly yielded from the Jovian System or Mercury. Without tuition, The Hermian Academy is nonetheless extremely profitable, earning funding from patents or copyrights students create whilst enrolled.

Structure

The modern Academy is run by a democratic council, and regulated by the ICG representative in charge of Mercury. Eschewing a headmaster, the school council elects a general manager each semester from the teacher's staff.

Public Agenda

The Academy is entirely dedicated to advancing humanity through science, and has committed to founding an interstellar branch before the year 500. With over twenty thousand students from across the Solar System, the School is widely known as the greatest center of Human learning.
