Sheriff

A Sheriff has the main legal responsibility over a certain area, on behalf of a monarch or lord. This can be as a official of a sheriffdom or shrievalty including settlements and even cities, or as a Forester on an estate. The responsibilities of a sheriff may vary greatly from country to country, or from area to area, as some are simply involved in keeping the peace, where others are also supposed to act as judges.
