Caer-Dineval
In generations past, travelers to Caer-Dineval had to follow the rocky shore of Lac Dinneshere until the small fortress for which the town earned its name is visible on the small hill where it overlooks the lake. A ferry out of Easthaven made the arduous trek unnecessary for merchants and most travelers, but the ferry was frozen in two months ago, cutting Caer-Dineval and its neighbor Caer-Kornig off from the rest of the Icewind Dale. Town residents are furious that the ferry has stopped, mainly because shipments of mead from Good Mead have as well, and the taverns are starting to run dry.
As if things weren't bad enough, the town's harbor has frozen over. The town's speaker, Crannoc Siever, has taken to his sickbed and hasn't made a public appearance in months, nor have they pressed the Council of Speakers to get the Easthaven ferry running again.

Caer-Dineval
A small castle built over four-hundred years ago by the Dinev family and is one of the oldest buildings in Ten-Towns. The Dinevs had aspirations of sovereignty that were quickly dashed by a host of Orcs who besieged the Caer and slaughtered the Dinevs. Ousting the Orcs marked one of the first times the settlers of Icewind Dale banded together to accomplish a goal outside of strict survival.Dinev's Legacy
A shuttered Inn located right off the road at the south end of town. Once a comfortable respite from the cold, the building now hosts boarded up windows and a severe draft. Locals jest that the name fits a little better now.The Uphill Climb
Often called simply "the Uphill" or "the Climb" this tavern is located north of the town to offer one last drink before making the trek to Caer-Konig or a spot of liquid courage if you have business at the Caer. The tavern offers a beautiful view of the frozen lake and serves hot chowder. Spirits, on the other hand, have run completely dry. Being as such, the locals don't tend to spend what little they scrounge at the Uphill Climb anymore.Architecture
Caer-Dineval has been rebuilt more than once, and the memories of Orc raids are always looming in the shadows. Houses are build to reflect this history, with low peaks and stone walls to resist fires and allow for visibility of anyone in alleyways from the roof. Windows are few and resemble arrow slits more than windows.
