Fey

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

Fey cannot reproduce sexually. What Fey must do to create more Fey is to take the children of races from the Material Plane and have the magics of Ellethrhaw corrupt them. It is during this corruption that a Fey can influence what kind of Fey it turns into. These children are considered children of the Fey that influenced what they turned into.

Growth Rate & Stages

A majority of Fey do not change as they age and cannot die of old age. This doesn't mean fey cannot die, they each can be killed in their own ways.

Ecology and Habitats

Fey are found in all corners of the world however, they cannot adapt to each area. Every fey is suited to specific environments.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Each Fey requires its own form of food.

Biological Cycle

Each fey is associated with one of the four seasons. Because of this, their powers grow during their associated season and wane when the season changes. During the opposing season, they are at their weakest.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Fey function in a feudal type system. Each season has its own court (Summer Court of Fairies, Winter Court of Fairies, Spring Court of Fairies, and Fall Court of Fairies). Each court is structured in roughly the same way. The Rìgh is the generic title for the heads of every court. Each Rìgh has its own title, in the common tongue, these translate to Queen for the Rìgh of Winter, King for the Rìgh of Summer, Princess for the Rìgh of Spring, and Prince for the Rìgh of Fall. Each Rìgh has a partner called a Caraid which acts as a consort and advisor to the Rìgh. The Sliochd is right below the Rìgh and is either called the Daughter or Son depending on the court (Daughter for Spring and Summer, Son for Fall and Winter). The Slichd is prepared to replace the Rìgh and takes up several important jobs of the court.   Below the courts are the Archfey, powerful beings that have been appointed by the Rìghs. All Archfey have dominion over designated regions of Ellethrhaw. These areas can be won or lost through conflicts between Archfey of various courts. Conflicts between Archfey of the same court are usually settled through the Slichd. Through ancestry, a fey will be beholden to an Archfey. One can earn their freedom through the use of a Wish Coin. One can become bonded to an Archfey through acts of aggression or in pursuit of power. Once bonded to an Archfey you cannot become bonded to another. This bonding is done through a spell that is only available to Archfey and above.   All Fey, even the leaders of the Courts, respond to the Court of Seasons. This court contains five Fey: Father Winter, Father Spring, Mother Summer, Mother Fall, and Grian Beatha. Regardless of the court, all Fey are bonded to all Mothers and Fathers of the seasons. A request made by them is assumed to come from Grian Beatha, and must be obeyed.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Byproducts of many Fey are used in charms and enchantment magic.

Civilization and Culture

Common Taboos

True Fey are unable to lie. This is because of a promise that the Mothers and Fathers gave to Grian Beatha and all Fey are bound to this promise.

History

In the beginning, Ellethraw came from absolute chaos. From the plane itself was born Grian Beatha. To tame the chaos they pulled the Mothers and Fathers from his own body and tasked them with taming Ellethraw. They each took one of the four seasons and divided Ellethraw into them, controlling the weather. The Fey that wandered Ellethraw seeked out the Mothers and Fathers, of which each chose the Rìghs. The Rìghs chose the first Sliochds. All they fey rallied under the four Rìghs and worked to tame Ellethraw as Grian Beatha wished.

Historical Figures

Grian Beatha has a title that in the common tongue is best translated as God of the Fey. This is a bit of a misnomer since he is not worshipped as a god, but more as a leader as the Fey believe the Gods created Grian Beatha. It was Grian Beatha who gave power to the Fey.
