Giants Lung
Transmission & Vectors
Giants Lung is transmitted through air as the infected host coughs or sneezes. It spreads through bodily fluids making most contact easily transmittable.
Symptoms
- High fever
- Coughing out greenish, yellow, or bloody mucus
- Chills
- Feeling like you can’t catch your breath
- Exhaustion
- Low appetite
- Sharp or stabby chest pain, especially when you cough or take a deep breath
- Sweating
- Fast breathing and heartbeat
- Difficulty casting magic (through use of verbal components or spell requirements)
Treatment
Giants Lung cannot be cured using magic. Due to its origins in Mafral it has innately anti-magical properties. Only recently was a cure discovered by Gnomish Scientist Paamdiell Foresttreader. It is a special drug that takes a large number of components to create and is quite expensive due to the production process.
Paamdiell is currently working on developing new ways to produce the drug at a much faster rate to help lower its cost.
Prognosis
Most cases of Giants Lung are able to pass without issue, especially in healthy adults. Those with weakened immune systems are much higher at risk because of the fluid buildup in the lungs. Individuals with preexisting respiratory issues are also at a high risk. It shares a similar course with the magically preventable pneumonia.
Affected Groups
Any individual with lungs can be affected by Giants Lung. The most susceptible are those with weakened immune systems and the elderly.
Prevention
The best way that an individual can avoid Giants Lung is to avoid being around other individuals with it. Individuals that know they have Giants Lung can reduce its spread through the use of facial masks. Washing regularly has also proven to help.
History
Before the spell breaking of Mafral, Giants Lung did not exist. When the Giants lost their ability to use magic, they turned to technology to make up for what they had lost. This pushed them to develop large factories in their lands. Because of the pollution that comes from their factories, small bacteria have developed with resistance to magic from a variation of pneumonia in Mafral. It is common for people traveling into Mafral to contract Giants Lung. It got its name because it is a common disease among Giants, especially those living in factories.
Cultural Reception
Many see Giants Lung as undeserved punishment for the Giant's actions. It has resulted in a general dislike for the Giants and their way of life while mixed with a fear of them for living with the disease. Some even believe it is a weapon that was made by the Giants.

'... can reduce its spread through the use of facial masks' Huh, if only people in real life would realise that. -.- Really interesting condition. It reminds me a little bit of black lung that coal miners in England got after working down in the mines, only with bacteria taking centre stage. Poor Giants. :(
