Potions of Healing

"A traveler who does not have on them at least one potion of healing is asking for trouble."
~ Rina Olaven
The most common form of healing is that of the healing potion. It is the easiest of most potions to make, but still requires knowledge as one of the ingredients could actually result in harmful effects. It is the first potion most fledgling alchemists start with when learning. It is a very important resource to create, and some places specialize in making vast quantities of healing potions.

Manufacturing process

The time consuming aspect of creating a health potion comes from extracting the tar from the dried sphagnum moss, the amount extracted from this depends on the level of healing that the creator is trying to make. A juice is then made from the grated mandrake root added with some water and warmed up. The amount of mandrake juice requires a specific amount or it will create a more hallucinogenic response upon consumption. Once this brew is boiling, it is time to start adding the tar. The tar has to be added slowly to the juice and water. When mixed in the tar will turn the juice and water black and become more viscous. As it boils for longer the fluid will start to turn purple. When it does it is time to add more tar if you choose to create a higher level of concoction. It takes more and more of the tar to get the concoction back to the inky black each time it returns to the inky purple. When the amount of desired tar has been added and the concoction is purple, the last step is to add the honey. The honey will begin to turn the entire potion to its iconic red, and make the potion sweet to the taste.
