Sphagnum Moss is a marvel of nature. It perfectly reflects the cycle of creation and destruction that is shown in the universe. When something dies some of its essence lingers for a while. This energy is the same energy that necromancers manipulate to animate the corpses of creatures. This energy is also the same energy that the Sphagnum Moss consumes and stores, when consumed this energy is then transfered to the consumer. Because of this, Sphagnum Moss is one of the best ingredients for healing concoctions and potions.

Material Characteristics

A sage green in appearance, this moss grows at the base of decaying trees. It slowly consumes the decomposing tree gathering the remaining life essence from the once living tree and stores it causing it to become brighter in color at its tips.

This moss is moist to the touch and is spongy.

Sphagnum Moss is generally found in swampy areas and bogs.

Was discovered by the Wood Elves in the Alluring Forest. The exact date has been lost.

Everyday use

Used as an anticeptic to keep wounds clean.

Refinement

While it can be used in an unrefined state, in order for it to have any significant effect it has to be refined down into a tar like substance.

Hazards

The tar that is produced by the refinement process is incredibly potent. While in small doses this still contains healing properties, in high doses without being infused into a potion can be toxic.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Collected by Rangers and Druids but usually only sold by Rangers. The inability to grow it via agriculture makes it a dangerous plant to get ahold of, however it is not an uncommon plant to find.

Storage

If kept for direct use, the moss needs to be stored in a cool damp location or it will dry up. Once its dried out it can be stored just about anywhere but is then unusable except in the refinement process.
