The Voice

Qualifications

When a new Voice is called, the current Voice mentors them in their duties. This can take several decades to complete.

Appointment

It is through the divine word of Scuno, God of Order and Thunder that determines who The Voice will be. The current voice, if one is alive, will be told the whereabouts and name of the individual to take on the next role as The Voice.

Duties

Their main job is to give voice on the Material Plane for Scuno, God of Order and Thunder. It is their duty to push the followers of Scuno in the direction of Scuno's choosing.

Responsibilities

The Voice is responsible for maintaining order. This is done through the writing of minor laws around the Scuno's Laws and the command of members within the Church. They are also needed to complete bureaucratic work.

Benefits

All of the needs of the Voice are handled by the church as long as they fall within the Law's of Scuno. This is largely interpreted by the council that the Voice gathers together. It has been known that previous Voice's have abused this power, but it usually results in a replacement of the Voice by Scuno.

Accoutrements & Equipment

In public, The Voice is blindfolded by a golden yellow cloth and holds a ceremonial spear. The robes have changed over Millenium but they always include embroidery of the Scuno Scales and the colors white and gold. They are always escorted by The Right Hand of the Voice

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

The only removal of a Voice is through the Voice's death. Some Voice's have faced assassination, only once was this done without knowing who the next Voice was. The lack of a Voice means that several claims to the spot will be made, so this is avoided by waiting for the next in line. Some Voice's have feared training the next Voice, most will as they try to twist them for their own gains.

History

The first to be The Voice was the founder of the Church of Scuno, Jermyn. He walked the land speaking of Scuno's greatness and the ability to protect those that followed him. Jermyn was a very charismatic figure and gathered a great amount of respect from his peers and the communities that embraced Scuno. He was known to be kind and just. He started the tradition of training the new Voice as he was told from Scuno to train a young woman to become the next Voice.
The Voice was not always a beacon of order. In 4,501c the Voice was Azer. Azer took the position as a place to increase his own personal wealth. While never straying outside the Laws of Scuno, he brushed off minor laws that had been upheld for thousands of years. He claimed to know who the next Voice was but refused to name who it was, a play to maintain his own power. In time the Church had enough of his actions and he was killed. This led to the time where new Voices were being claimed everywhere. It was known as the Year of a Thousand Voices.

Cultural Significance

The Voice is seen as the word of Scuno, God of Order and Thunder. There is a general fear of punishment from The Voice as it is seen as a punishment from the god himself. He is considered a symbol of Order and Justice.
