Session 5: A Witch's Forest Report
General Summary
The group continues on from their rest after having defeated the clockwork creatures. As they return to the fork in the forest path, they see that the form has changed again. Only one path ahead remains. A door on the sign, adorned with several skulls.
Following that path they end at a mysterious door that was standing within the forest, no walls attached to it, nothing behind it. But as they step inside they stand in a circular room made of stone. The door closes behind them, revealing someone who had been standing behind the door as it seems.
The person introduces themselves as Blake, a guild member and someone to score them as she claimed. A little confused and not quite trusting this person the group tried to deal with the first puzzle presented to them. The levers on the wall and a note on a skeleton made clear what was to do. Instead of letting the group figure the situation out slowly, drawing their own conclusions, Blake went and started pulling down the levers one by one, each of them in the wrong order. Each time thunderous sound rang out, hurting the already battered party. Blake continued with this even after being told to stop.
Once Blake pulled down the last lever, they all reset and the group used their chance to pull them down in the correct order. Doing so they managed to continue on to the next room. A hallway with boulders and broken statues separated them from the next room. A diamond shape on the ground the only thing in it. Figuring out that shape was indeed a pressure plate it took them some time to investigate how the plate and the door move in accordance to each other. Having figured out that apparently a weight equal to theirs was necessary to keep the door up, Eli carried boulders onto the plate, the last one and biggest one too heavy for him. As such Gnimble used his trickery to enlarge Eli to a massive size, making it possible for him to put the boulder onto the plate with ease.
Carrying on to the next room, the group was faced with a 120 keyhole lock. Two keys having mysteriously appeared in their pockets, messages engraved onto them. It only took them a few moments to release two out of four clamps around the door. Though the remaining two proved more difficult. The party was close to giving up and trying to take apart the lock and the door, when they figured it out. Unlocking the remaining two keys, the door opened and let them outside.
The path continued on for a little while, finally the forest growing lighter, letting some more light in and opening out onto a small clearing, a house standing on a hill surrounded by pumpkin fields. The witch was already expecting them, and after a short conversation she send out to clockwork looking hounds, attacking the party.
The hounds were dealt with fairly fast but by that time the witch had disappeared. The only thing left for the group to do, was to release the children that were trapped in the scarecrows. Returning them to their families, the group rushed back to the city of Arcby, reporting to ... the witch.
She congratulated them for their success, handing the three letters of invitation, as well as handing each of them a pouch with some money.
Celebrating their success with a long night, they each eventually dropped dead into bed, eyes set on Silverlake ... the city of the Silvertalons.
