The Cauldron
A magitek device created by Pepper Quin to view the memories of willing individuals.
Utility
The Cauldron is primarily utilized by Rabanastre's justice system when criminals are put on trial. Willing participants can submit themselves to the cauldron when faced with an accusation in order to clear their own name.
The operation of the cauldron and the information ferreted out during investigations are tightly guarded secrets by a small team of mages hand picked by Pepper Quin.
The cauldron itself is simply a conductor of magical energies. It allows a group of people to link their minds and focus on one participants mind, then being able to flip through their memories as if watching a movie. The subject is tranquilized before the process begins to prevent unnecessary trauma as the magicians look for the memory in question. The procedure is not exact and many memories can unwillingly flash before the group before they are able to narrow down the accussed's defense. Before the process begins, the mages are given a very distinct recollection of the events by the subject in order to help focus their thoughts on finding the correct memory. Over time and with practice, some can become very good at finding the memory in question without having to invasively dig through years of other thoughts.
All of the mages involved in this process are sworn to secrecy on anything and everything they view during the process save for the exact memory of the accusation.

Access & Availability
The Cauldron is only available under very specific circumstances in the Rabanastre justice system. It is widely known that it does not even work unless the individual agrees to the procedure. This, however, is not entirely accurate. There are three people who currently know that The Cauldron can indeed be forced on a subject, though this has never happened before in it's history.
Complexity
The process of learning how to operate the mind link of the cauldron and sharing your inner thoughts with others is extremely complex and dangerous and can only be done safely by those with an enormous amount of empathy and sympathy within them. As such, those who perform the procedure are trained for months personally by Pepper Quin to ensure no one is injured or permanently scarred during the process. This training is also the time in which Pepper Quin tests and weighs the trainee's characters.
