Aluit (Al-oo-it)
A tribal and nomadic people, both this race and ethnicity are particularly adapted to cold conditions, and one of the few populations capable of settling and surviving among the cold, harsh glaciers of Illicid.
Culture
Shared customary codes and values
Above all else, the Aluit respect the land and care for it. They take only what they need, and ensure that nothing is wasted. This often puts them at odds with the more decadent human cultures, and especially the dwarven Undumun people.
Second only to their care for the land, the Aluit put the tribe, or in some cases the family, above all else. To them, it is the responsibility of the individual to better the tribe.
Common Customs, traditions and rituals
Although the tribes of the Firbolg are vast and spread out from each other one tradition in particular is common to them all, even spanning the mid continents and being common among all Firbolg across both poles of the world. This is the tradition that a Firbolg must always carry their code in written form.
When in groups and tribes, this is often the responsibility of the Chief, or her designate. If two tribes were to meet and one was unable to produce the code, they would be rebuked by the other tribe, and condemned until they were absolved through the Trials.
For indivuduals, or families, that were travelling apart from a larger tribe it was customary to give a copy of the Code to them as a gift when they left, so that they would never be found without it.
Funerary and Memorial customs
While death is always a sombre time for the entire tribe, the Aluit view death as the ultimate gift to nature; giving one's body back to the land that sustained it for so long is seen as a greta honour. The traditions of death often center around fasting. The Firbolg who has passed will be burried in a shallow grave, with the earth delicately pulled back so that it can be put back afterwards. Two young Snarlwood trees are then planted nearby, so that they may grow on the magic of the deceased tribe member.
