Zelachhk Tar Laagmar - Celebration of the Tides
Originally a tradition of the Orkhir people that dates back to the early First Age, the Zelachhk Tar Laagmar is also a celebration for the Ardun culture that has roots in the Orkhir people. It is a day of celebration centered around a new captain being given their first charge in a brand new ship. It is seen as an incredibly high honour for an inexperienced captain to be given a brand new ship, and is thus a cause for major celebration.
History
In the Orkhir culture where this tradition originated, this celebration was observed by sailors aboard a ship when a new captain was named, and is still observed this way by Orcish sailors from Bagrad. In that culture the native name of the celebration roughly translates to 'Celebration of the Waves' in the common tongue.
The Ardunian cultures, and primarily the ones found on Haer-Boitha, however observe what is roughly translated to the Celebration of the Tides. These festivities are more commonly associated with the Zelachhk Tar Laagmar, which they roughly translated into the 'Celebration of the Tides' in the common tongue.
Its largely agreed upon that the discrepancy in the naming is due to the use of the orcish word 'Laagmar' which doesn't have any proper translation into the common tongue. It has been used to describe water in nearly all forms throughout the history of the language, and it is theorized that it was simply never changed by either culture so that they could both continue to celebrate the Zelachhk Tar Laagmar as they believed they should.
