House Elden of Westray

Founding - A Meeting of Tribes:

The history of House Elden traces back to the nascent days of Westray. The family's patriarch, Thrain Elden, was a chieftain of a prominent tribe living at the fringes of the Eastray Woods. Recognizing the strategic location between Stoneguard and Hollow's Field, he initiated a grand assembly of tribes, leading to the founding of Westray.

Era of Consolidation:

Thrain's successors continued his legacy of diplomacy and collaboration. They worked assiduously to unify the various clans and tribes under a centralized governance system. Over the next centuries, House Elden molded Westray from a series of disconnected settlements into a formidable, cohesive city-state. Their reign was marked by peace, cooperation, and an early emphasis on equitable distribution of resources.

Architectural Prowess and Urban Development:

House Elden was renowned for its architectural innovations. The majestic stone walls of Westray, an enduring legacy of House Elden, were built during the reign of Lord Eoric Elden. The house also commissioned the construction of several public buildings, libraries, and marketplaces, ensuring Westray's status as a vibrant urban center.

The Green Accord:

One of the most remarkable achievements of House Elden was the establishment of the 'Green Accord'. Lord Aelric Elden, recognizing the sacredness of the Eastray Woods, entered into a pact with the forest’s denizens, promising to protect and preserve the woods' sanctity. This accord ensured a harmonious balance between urban expansion and nature conservation.

Cultural Patronage:

Besides their achievements in governance and urban development, House Elden was a patron of arts and education. The Elden Theater, established during the era of Lady Miriel Elden, became a cultural epicenter, attracting artists from across the land. The House also founded the Elden Archive, preserving the history, knowledge, and folklore of Westray.

Decline and End:

Despite their illustrious reign, the decline of House Elden was marked by a series of unfortunate events. A combination of political intrigue, external threats, and economic downturns chipped away at their power. The final blow came with the unexpected death of Lord Falric Elden, with no heir to continue the family legacy.   The house's dwindling influence and the absence of a successor led to a power vacuum. Over time, House Valliere, with its rising influence and ambition, took over the reins of Westray by appointment of the monarch. However, despite their end, the legacy of House Elden remains etched in the annals of Westray, and their contributions to the city's foundation and growth are celebrated to this day.
