House Valliere of Westray

House Valliere of Westray: The Moonlit Dominance

The Rise of the Valliere:

The ascent of House Valliere to power was swift and strategic. When House Elden began to wane, the Vallieres, with their vast economic resources and growing influence among the merchant class, positioned themselves as the next logical rulers of Westray. Through both diplomacy and strategic marriages, they consolidated their hold over the city.

Golden Era of Trade:

Under House Valliere, Westray experienced an economic boom. The Vallieres were master merchants, establishing trade links as far away as the Eastern realms. The city's ports were bustling with activity, and Westray became synonymous with affluence and opulence. They enhanced the city's infrastructure, including road networks and harbors, making it a major trade hub.

Cultural Evolution:

The Vallieres were not only traders but also patrons of arts. They invited craftsmen, poets, and artists to Westray, making the city a crucible for cultural and artistic evolution. It was during their rule that Westray saw the construction of the famed Luminous Halls, an architectural marvel that hosted grand balls and events.

The Dark Secret:

However, unbeknownst to many, the Valliere's rapid rise and success were not just a product of their acumen but also a result of their sinister pact. Deep within the labyrinthine cellars of the Valliere Keep, they worshipped and served an ancient Vampire Lord, Garion the Shadebinder. In exchange for their loyalty, Garion bestowed upon them dark powers and extended lifelines.

The Masquerade Ball of Shadows:

The Vallieres' secret remained well-guarded until the Masquerade Ball of Shadows, a grand event attended by the nobility of Westray and surrounding regions. During the ball, several attendees mysteriously disappeared, only to be found later as drained husks in the castle's dungeons.

The Fall of House Valliere:

The discovery of the Valliere's allegiance to Garion led to widespread panic and outrage. House Sinclair, then a prominent and ambitious noble house, rallied the citizens and other noble families. Using the situation to their advantage and driven by both genuine desire to free the city and ambition, they laid siege to Valliere Keep with assistance from the Blademaidens.   In a fierce battle that raged for days, the Sinclairs, with the aid of a coalition of hunters and mages, managed to penetrate the defenses of the keep. The confrontation reached its climax in the underground sanctum, where Garion was vanquished and the Vallieres were exposed as his thralls.

Aftermath:

Following the overthrow, House Sinclair was hailed as the city's saviors. They swiftly assumed power, promising a reign of transparency and righteousness. As for the Vallieres, their name became synonymous with treachery. Their estates were confiscated, and any surviving members were exiled or executed. Their dark legacy, however, became a cautionary tale in Westray, a reminder of the price of unchecked ambition and the shadows that can lurk behind even the most glittering facades.
