The greatest difference between our world and that of Vampire: The Masquerade is the presence of immortal monsters pulling the strings of humanity. Violence and despair are more common here, because they need to be in order for the Kindred to continue their existences. The world is bleak, but escape is an ever-present commodity - perhaps too present. The setting of Vampire is a composite of its populace and their despair.
That last line is such a good one. Vampire the Masquerade (revised edition) was the second RPG I ever played and I still consider it the best vampire setting out there, and I couldn't even tell you a close second. To me, it's become the quintessential way to think about Vampires, and ways to depict them, their internal struggles, and the way they interact.   Not all of it has aged super well (looking at you, Ravnos and Assamites), but it's well worth the read. Avoid 5th ed, though. Revised edition is where it's at.   Get it here:

Video Recommendation

How were castles really made? To answer that, people in France decided to try and build one, using the exact same techniques and technologies as those od the middle ages. The result is the world's largest "experimental archeology" site, and they are really fascinating. The entire series is well worth a read, even if you don't have castles. Just seeing how clever people can be is kind of amazing.

Music Recommendation

Music from what is one of my favorite games of all time (Like, top 3 or 4 list). The PS1 Original - I played the hell out of my imported copy and it's one of those games I pick up every now and then to play through again.     I have to be careful and not listen too much to it, or the urge to play it will come over me :D

"I see you, I see you not."

Haywood Costello
Character | May 6, 2021

Without his Abbot’s whites it might be tempting to underestimate him, this paunchy, grizzled man with white stubble and lonely wisps of hair; an old warrior going to seed, with soft-looking hands and an easy blue-eyed smile. That would be a fatal mistake

Troll
Species | Jan 7, 2024

A curious creature, if 'creature' is the correct word for aggressive, bipedal, and predatory moss. They are also, oddly enough, the most successful predator in any territory that a troll or trolls call home.

I can't tell you how fond I am of VtM. I got into it way, way back and dabbled in the computer game when it first came out. Never could get a TTRPG going, BUT I own all of the old supplements for all the different clans because they're just so very cool. VtM was a really big kick off for me, for vampires, too. The bloodlines, the talents, how they function in the world...   I was so happy to see this on your inspiration page. :3   Also, that last image just made me think of your recent articles about Mondays and your Mandatory Happiness Mobile XD

What would an ocean be without a monster lurking in the dark?

Don't drop your coffee cup! (Or spill hot tea/coffee, that might even be worse) :(
