Townmaster of Mudvein
The Townmaster of Mudvein oversees the day-to-day operations of the town.
Qualifications
The only requirement to be the Townmaster is to also be eligible to vote (being a permanent resident and of age). Technically this means that individuals as young as 16 can be townmaster, that never happens in practice. Most townmasters are at least 30 years old before they can convince enough of the town to vote for them.
Appointment
Appointment is the result of an election within Mudvein. All permanent residents 16 and older are eligible to vote.
Responsibilities
The Townmaster handles the day-to-day operations of the town, including but not limited to collecting taxes, managing shipments into and out of town, handling civil disputes.
Benefits
The townmaster is given 2gp per day along with a modest home to live in. While not an official benefit, many town residents will give the townmaster gifts, often as unspoken bribe.
Accoutrements & Equipment
The Townmaster is given an official amulet to wear around town and signify his rank.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
If the Townmaster fails to perform duties, the town can call a vote. It requires a 60% vote in favor to remove the Townmaster.
