Highest Hunter

The Highest Hunter is a slightly ceremonial role. The one who holds this title is still always someone who has bested the challenges, but the job has shifted slightly since its first inception.   Currently the role of the Highest Hunter is to serve the The Highest Council as the mediator. They do not get to vote, nor do they choose what topics are brought to the floor, the point of the mediation is to choose when each topic is raised within their group, and to determine when it would be more efficient to come together and deliberate as a group, or to have unstructured, informal deliberation time between individual members of the Highest Council.   The position is elected every five years by the members of the Highest Council. The primary interviewing tool the Council uses are the challenges that the hunters must participate in. Each challenge is difficult and in one way or another represents an activity or skill useful and needed in hunting. After these challenges have been completed, the The Highest Council will deliberate and come to a consensus of who should be the next Highest Hunter. There are no limitations on who may or may not participate, though it is generally a female, and they are generally between the ages of 25 and 50.   For the rest of the year, while residing in Taji, the Highest Hunter does participate in the small pack of non-nomadic people who are supported by the other packs to run and keep up with the demands of Taji and the rest of the non-pressing issues of the species. The pack keeps tabs on where all the other packs are in case of an emergency. The Highest Hunter will often lead the hunts set out by this pack, though that is the secondary part of the job that needs to take a backseat if the needs of the species are pressing. If the rest of the packs need to be called back to Taji before the next Highest Council meeting, the Highest Hunter is the one who is sent out with two other members of the Taji pack to find all the other packs and bring them back to the tree.   In times of species wide war, the Highest Hunter serves as a the leader of any military action and takes the sole responsibility of the military. Though there has not been a species wide war in quite some time, it is still customary for the Highest Hunter to care for the military equipment and all documentation throughout the year. Appointing captains has been something that has taken place in the past, though generally it is not continued in the present due to the lack of need for them.
