Background

For 10,000 years, since the end of the Great Heresy, the God-Emperor of Mankind has been enshrined upon the Golden Throne of Terra, his will made manifest by the might of his numberless legions and the rule of the Adeptus Terra. Under the golden light of His watchful eye, the Imperium of Man endures against the predations of the alien, the mutant and the heretic. By His psychic will, the Astronomicon guides the ships of the Imperium through the Warp and lights the way for his faithful servants.

Prior to the Great Heresy, the God-Emperor walked among us, and led humanity in a Great Crusade to reclaim the galaxy for the benefit of all mankind and protect them from the machinations of the Warp. As the Great Crusade came to a close, Horus, the favored son of the Emperor, rebelled against his father when he was corrupted by Chaos and their ilk. In the final climatic battle, The God Emperor slew his wayward son, banishing him forever. The Emperor, wounded but unbroken, then ascended to his Golden Throne and began his long vigil, that humanity may continue and thrive.

The Golden Throne

An ancient device whose origins are lost in time, it sustains the Emperor so that he may never truly die. It is hidden deep within the continent size Imperial palace on Terra, guarded eternally by the Adeptus Custodes . If one were ever to make it to the Throne Room itself, the blinding psychic light of the Emperor would humble even the most powerful of the Imperium's servants, as it shone out from kilometers of cables and machinery that sustain Him.

The Astronomicon

Connected to the Golden Throne via ancient machinery, The Astonomicon lies within what has been called the Hollow Mountain. It is the seat of power of one of the branches of the Adeptus Terra , the Adeptus Astropathica. Here, psykers from all corners of the Imperium are brought as part of the Imperial Tithe all planets must pay. The psykers will either be chosen to recieve the soul binding and become Astropaths, or be sent to the Astronomicon. Here a thousand psyker souls a day are consumed as they power the great beacon and sustain the Golden Throne.
