Structure

The Kataphraktoi Numerus is commanded by a Numerarches, who has a Numerias as his senior enlisted advisor. Under the Numerarches are 10 Pentarches. One leads the command Kontoubernion and is designated as the Entoli Pentarches. The Pentarches of the first Kontoubernion in the formation is designated as the Prota Pentarches, and the Pentarches of the second Kontoubernion in the formation is designated as the Defteros Pentarches. Each Pentarches, excepting the Entoli Pentarches, is assisted by a Voithokos Pentarchos.
The succession of command for the unit goes: Numerarches, Numerias, Entoli Pentarches, Prota Pentarches, Defteros Pentarches, then the remaining Pentarches.

Tactics

The Katphraktoi are used as a hammer on the battlefield. They are masters of the charge, and strike the flanks of the enemy when they are occupied fighting the Skutatoi.

Training

After each campaign the best of the Tasinarioi and Kounsorses are given the opportunity to join the Kataphraktoi. If they decide to join, they are sent to a centralized training location and taught to fight as kataphraktoi. After 6 months of training the return to their Numerus, and train full time with their unit.
