Gisela is the leader of Flight Goldnight, a group of warrior angels that fight alongside the Cathars, the mortal soldiers of the Church. Her peerless leadership and tireless drive have resulted in more victories than defeats. Her blade was blessed by Avacyn herself, and is said to shine with the light of a summer's day at noon. Soldiers pray to her for victory, and families of soldiers pray to her the safe return of their loved ones.
Like all angels, Gisela follows the Archangel Avacyn in her quest to protect the people of Innistrad, providing the strong right hand and martial discipline to Avacyn's forces. The rare times she is not fighting on the front lines with her sisters, Gisela meets with the Archon of Steel in Thraben to discuss battle tactics and defence plans.
She and her Flight reside in the Elgaud, training grounds, a clifftop fortress monastery overlooking the city of Havengul, which trains new recruits to the Cathars. Sometimes she oversees the training personally, and challenges promising recruits to a duel with practice swords. If they can land a blow on her, she gives a red-tipped feather from her own wing as proof of the accomplishment. It's said that soldiers who bear this mark into battle are guarded by Flight Goldnight, although this has never been confirmed (or denied) by the Church.
