Invasive Species: Overview

An Overview

Introduction

Invasive Species is at its core an optimistic vision for an otherworldly yet grounded and realistic solarpunk society that has emerged in the wake of the most unfathomable challenges. It almost entirely centers around the solarpunk-inspired nation known as The Communal Republics of Lavenna on the distant exoplanet of Kepler 77c, exploring the LCR's fascinating society, cultures, politics, and a ton of other fun stuff.

A Brief History

Long ago in the distant, forgotten past, humanity failed.

We'd failed as caretakers of our birthplace, Earth. You can probably guess how: by treating the natural environment as a resource and not an asset, by consuming and producing needlessly at an ever increasing pace, polluting every pristine environment we could find, all the usual stuff. Unfortunately, there was only so much of our nonsense that our planet could tolerate. By 2200, the damage was irreversible.   As the largest mass dyings in history began to reveal our inevitable extinction, naturally the ultra-rich who caused it all wanted to deal with none of the consequences of their actions. Trillionaires, Billionaires, the whole gang, all agreed to collaborate on a gargantuan project that would take decades to complete. The Ikaros Flotilla (Yes, some incredibly subtle symbolism with that name there, I know)       The true origins of humanity have been almost completely lost to the centuries. After ecosystems collapsed, and the settlers were forced to abandon their technology for reasons still lost to time, humanity regressed and dispersed across the now barren edifice of the planet. Over centuries, society redeveloped alongside the spread and colonisation of Earth life. Gradually, Earth life virtually completely supplanted the indigenous life, carving out an anaemic, tentative new environment. In recent years, a veritable boom in the rediscovery and scientific advancement has coincided with a renewed resurgence in our old destructive habits. But while many foolishly seek to exploit and squander the fragile surviving environment, there are also those who seek above all else to learn from our mistakes, to build a brighter future both for this disfigured planet and humanity.
