The Communes of Celvesso

Often called the borderlands of Lavenna, Celvesso is a vast, undulating landscape inhabited by a people as diverse as their environment. The Bestomu Desert is often the image most people have when they think of Celvesso. The endless, barren expanses of unchanging red sands, punctuated by the constant howling of wind and the blaze of the suns. However, the desert is so vast, occupying much of Celvesso, that it has a startling array of sub climates. The southern desert is mostly barren, but to the north it transforms into a vibrant and dazzling landscape of towering, spindly rock formations, a ground pockmarked with caverns and gorges, and a colourful array of surviving biology. The famous Celvessan Desert Lily, a small species of surviving native plantlife, has colonised much of the central desert, spreading its vast root systems just below the surface like a lattice. It is as much a necessary puzzle piece in restoration efforts (its roots hold in place soils that would otherwise blow away), as it is a timeless symbol of the resilience and tenacity of the people that call this beautifully unrelenting land home.

Territories

As with most other environments across the planet, Celvesso wasn't always a desert, and was once in fact home to lush native rainforests. Only a handful of tenuous pockets persisted for centuries, until they were scorched and harvested by the Seriphanese during the Continental War. Despite decades of intensive restoration efforts as a part of reconstruction, Celvesso has been particularly difficult, and less than 1% has been successfully sustainably restored. As a result, the National Directorate has a permanent commitee dedicated to Celvassan restoration, and entire fields of eco sciences have sprung up due to its perplexing stubbornness.
