Holton Basin

Nestled between two outreaches of the Frosthill Mountains is the wide open Holton Basin, made up predominantly of grasslands, with the occasional copse of shrub-like trees. The climate here, unlike that of the lower lands, is harsh and unforgiving, with the summers exceedingly hot and the winters bitterly cold; the altitude rarely dip below 200 metres and the peaks of the Frosthills dominate the environment. Whilst not a large habitat, barely 150 kilometres across and 100 kilometres deep, it is considered a dangerous environment, due to the number of monsters that inhabit it, having come down from the mountains.   There are no settlements in the area, permanent or otherwise, and those creatures that do call it home are entirely nomadic. Occasionally an expedition will be undertaken by some ambitious adventurers to cleanse the area of hostiles, but they inevitably return over time. The few people who do travel into or through the area have reported seeing ruined towers and the occasional shape under the ground that may or may not be the remains of ancient settlements, but no serious investigations have ever taken place.
