Erathis
The Law Bearer, Goddess of Law
For more information on all Prime Deities, see: Prime Deities
The inspiration behind many great inventions, the creation of vast cities, and law and order within society, Erathis claims dominion over civilization. Judges and rulers pay respect at her temples, which are central structures in many cities across Iolcus. Peace and order through structure and law guides the will of her devout followers.
Physical Description
Erathis is shown in most texts and statues as a hooded, armored woman sitting atop a throne of pillars. Her face is generally obscured or depicted without expression, giving her presence an impartial yet imposing nature.
Divine Realm
Erathis resides within the glorious divine metropolis of Axiom, the Eternal City. This glowing oasis coasts through Nirvana, as the Law Bearer watches over the denizens bathed in the endless daytime that illuminates the busy streets.
Tenets of Faith
- Utilize the company and aid of others. The efforts of the individual often pale against the capabilities of the community.
- Strive to tame the wilds in the name of civilization, and defend the points of light and order against the chaos of darkness.
- Uphold and revere the spirit of invention. Create new settlements, build where inspiration strikes, and expand the edicts of the Law Bearer.
Personal History
Erathis was among the Prime Deities who fought against the Betrayer Deities in defense of mortals during the War of Repellence. Records state that, at the end of the War of Repellence, it was she and Bahamut who came to Iolcus and declared that the Prime Deities would also leave the Material Plane. Though this was initially met with protest from both the divine and mortals, the other gods ultimately agreed, finding this "unimpeachable and just". Thus, the Parting occurred and the Divine Gate was created.
Worshipers
Erathis is commonly worshipped by leaders and judges. Clerics of Erathis and druids of Melora work together to keep civilization and nature in balance.
Holy Books & Codes
"The Order of Numbers" is the primary holy book of the faithful of the goddess Erathis. Each copy is extensively decorated and contains detailed lists of the religion's rules and taboos.
Contacts & Relations
Prime Deities
Erathis has a tempestuous and furious romantic relationship with Melora, the goddess of nature, that "tempered only when civilization and nature are in balance." When this balance is disrupted, "civil unrests and riots bloom in her beloved cities". Erathis and Melora created humans through their passionate love as the third race on Iolcus. They granted humans passionate hearts as well, but also a chaos that blessed them with the ambitions, mirth, and curiosity of their two creators. However, they also cursed them to be too short-lived to fully fulfill these impulses.Betrayer Deities
Zehir detests both Erathis and Melora, and sends his followers to destroy civilization and deplete nature. Erathis also despises Bhaal, seeing his reign as a perversion of law into authoritarianism; Bhaal is also an enemy of Melora.Divine Traits
