Cruise of Steel

Epic riffs all week long!

Although being disconnected from Sol more often than not, many dates in the old Terran calendar continue to hold a certain special power in the hearts of humanity. For a certain subsection of the people of the Perseus Arm, no date has greater meaning than the June 21st, although the true date of the Terran solstice is now in October due to the precession of the equinoxes.   Every standard year, for one week surrounding the date of June 21st, a hundred thousand people from across Taurus gather in the Almunsahir system to celebrate one thing...

HEAVY METAL!

The Hulk of Legends

Why did we choose a bulk ore freighter for conversion? Because it rocks. YEAAAAAH!
— Lukas Sigurthson, event organiser and professional headbanger

The annual Cruise of Steel is held aboard the Hulk of Legends, formerly one of the largest bulk ore freighters ever constructed by man and converted into a cruise liner of unprecedented proportions. Her cavernous cargo holds which once held seemingly endless volumes of loose rocks and stones have been extensively retrofitted with all the life support systems and amenities needed for human and kith habitation.   Several of the holds have been set aside for accommodation and related facilities, but the biggest three of the bays have been equipped with stages of monumental proportions.

The Metal Month

Even though the Cruise of Steel lasts for only a week, the Hulk of Legends is always stocked with over a month's worth of provisions. Ion Storms are unpredictable beasts and risk stranding visitors to the Hulk of Legends for days at a time. This is not always seen as a bad thing by the attendees however, as it provides an excuse to extend the festival for longer, but the event organisers and the performing bands forced to play for longer than anticipated tend to disagree on this point.   The longest such occurrence was named the Metal Month. An Ion Storm of suitably Metal proportions formed in the region surrounding Almunsahir, and lasted for a record demolishing thirty seven days. Although the Hulk of Legends had enough supplies on board, these supplies were starting to get alarmingly low by the time the Ion Storm passed and the visitors became restless when the beer ran out entirely. .
