Living in the land where mountain reaches desert, then Gnomes have formed their nation into a mercantile giant. Lead by an oligarchy of powerful merchants the Gnomic Mercantile Electorate is devoted completely to the trade of goods. It is said that if something can’t be found in the market-cities of the G.M.C. then it doesn’t exist. It is due to the G.M.C that many goods that would be impossible to find are accessible in the world’s markets. For Gnome culture, being a merchant, even an unsuccessful one, is seen as the highest possible advocation. Because of this the G.M.C. makes very little on its own instead preferring to import it from other nations, this even includes other professions like healers. It is not uncommon for a Gnome to be a trader on the side of whatever business the run, if only for status reasons. While many come to the G.M.C. looking for goods many more Gnome traders travel the world buying and selling goods anywhere they can find a market. A town that doesn’t have a Gnome trader stop by once in a while is not a true town. Due to this, Gnomes are commonly the first individual not of their race that people see.
