The Golden Circle
Structure
Grandmaster: The supreme commander of the Golden Circle. The Grandmaster is a lifetime position that more often than not ends when the person dies. When the old Grandmaster passes away, the Marshals, Under-Marshals and the Commanders decide who will be the next one, usually the one with the most experience though a number are nominated by pure popularity.
Commanders: The Commander was the local commander in charge of that specific city's stronghold. They have complete command in the field. There is usually only one Commander in each city.
Marshals: The Marshals were in charge of all arms, as well as all horses. The Marshalls, along with the Commanders, would decide all military actions. There are five Marshalls in total in every city.
Under-Marshals: The first officer under the Marshal, the Under-Marshal was in charge of the lesser equipment, harnesses, padding for saddles, barrels of water, and other supply problems. There are five Under-Marshals in total in each city.
Sergeant: Sergeants are light cavalry officers and the chief support officer for the Under-Marshal. Each Under-Marshal has two Sergeants working under them.
Knight: Knights are heavily armored soldiers who ride on horseback and are the backbone of the military force of the order. Any squire can become a knight if they have proven their courage in battle and someone with the rank of Marshal or higher is willing to pledge for them.
Squire: Squires are the young men and women who assist the knights in any way possible, from polishing their weapons to feeding their horses. The typical squire is between the ages of 14-18, during which time they test their mettle and earn the right to be called Knight.
Page: Pages are apprentice attendants who usually accompany a Knight and assists the Squires assigned to said Knight. Boys and girls at the age of seven can become Pages.
Public Agenda
The organization's agenda is to keep the Aryite people safe from bandits and outlaws as well as pose as a deterant for groups like the Iron Company from forming.
Assets
The Golden Circle has a keep or estate in all of the major cities in Aryia that can house 35-50 order members as well as a full housing staff. The Golden Circle's headquarters is located in Llyne catty-corner from the palace.
History
In the wake of King Gautier Oweyn's conquest, a number of groups including the Iron Company popped up filled with discontent people from the kingdoms and nations that had been conquered and absorbed by the kingdom of Aryia. Some like the Iron Company had good intentions of bringing an end to the horror that was the Conquest but, many did not. Instead, they took advantage of all the Aryite soldiers being on the frontline by harassing the people who were trying to rebuild their lives and homes. Unable to simply stand aside and allow this abuse to continue a number of men and women of various ages formed a group that would patrol the farmlands and villages being rebuilt. Amongst these was a teenaged Jac Rosser and a number of other veterans of The Grerin War.
Initially, they called themselves The Circle as they wanted to encircle the peasantry throughout Aryia with protection. In order to provide this protection, however, because of their small numbers, the members of The Circle had to tirelessly patrol the land, fighting off bandits and marauders on little rest. Although there were times when they were unable to save anyone due to simply being too far away, news of The Circle working to protect the people spread and soon, their numbers had doubled from thirty to sixty members and they had received a number of donated weapons, armor, and even a few mules from supporters.
The Circle became so widely known that when King Gautier could no longer put up with the Iron Company, he called upon The Circle to help fight them along with his soldiers and Rune Casters. With the obliteration of the Iron Company, King Gautier publicly applauded The Circle for their efforts both during the battle and in protecting his people while he was away. As thanks, he awarded them a large plot of land in the capital city of Llyne close to the palace in which they could build their headquarters. He also declared that they should henceforth be known as The Golden Circle as they encircled the people with protection and were a light the people could follow and model themselves after.
