The fae and fair folk are a common and prevalent legend across the multiverse. Whether they actually exist in a realm or are just a folk tale varies. One common factor across the realms are the myths regarding fairy food.

One day you decide to go for a hike, or even settle in for a camping trip. No matter the reason, you're now in the wilderness. Something happens. You lose track of time. Maybe the heat disorients you. You are lost, hungry, and wary.
Before long, you unknowingly wander through an unseen portal. The hedge to the fae realm can appear anywhere when you least expect it. Something drew you in to the area whether you were aware of it or not.
The air is cooler here and you feel at ease. Upon hearing your stomach rumble you decide to look for something remotely edible. A tantalizing scent catches your attention, luring you to a secluded meadow. It led you to a large table full to the brim with fresh food.
Today must be your lucky day. Without a second thought, you take a seat and gorge yourself on this heaven sent feast, unaware of the grave mistake you just committed.

Forbidden Food

A common trait about the fae is their love for trickery. Humans are a fun, easily fooled, play thing to mess with and use as the fairy sees fit. Many cultures have warning tales about consuming anything from their realm. Once you enter the hedge, you need your wits about you if you wish to see your home and loved ones ever again.
Even a tiny nibble is enough to put you under their spell. Some cultures and worlds cite different effects, but the overall gist is that consuming anything offered by a fairy results in either you owing them a debt, or them having power over you. Some tales even state that it makes it impossible to leave their realm.
In planes where the fae are just fairy tales, these myths are often used as cautionary bed time stories parents tell their children. It falls under the category of "stranger danger" and not accepting anything from people you don't know or don't know the origin of.

All employees are advised about the fae and their trickery, no matter their skill level. Even a tenured archivist can fall victim under the right circumstances. It's easier to avoid getting stuck in the fae realm than it is for us to form a search party while also abiding to that plane's unique set of rules.
