Ocari

Ocari is a cipher that Praecepts use to hide their knowledge from other people. It is mostly used for incomplete texts, before they are fully finished, edited and translated to Istin.

Writing System

by Catoblepon

The ocari has the same alphabet as the Istin, but the symbols representing the alphabet changes. With each text of Ocari, there is a single word written in Istin. This word job is to determine with which letter of the Istin, the Ocari starts. So for example, if a text is with the word "Naol", the first symbol of the alphabet is going to be N, then the O, etc. The symbols are read from left to right, and up to down.

Geographical Distribution

Written by the Praecepts, the Ocari is written all over Branul, in settlements of the Praecepts.
There are places in other continents where it is also used, but it is because some Praecepts have travelled and settled down outside Branul recently.

Phonetics

Ocari is not a speech cipher, and thus, it has no phonetics, no sound.
Prompt 14: Write about a secret code or cypher in your world: who uses it, and for what purpose?

Origin

The ocari was created after some visitors (supposed to be Larvaes) in the Praecepts settlements stole information and distributed it around Branul without the Praecepts consent.

What was stolen?

The texts stolen from the Praecepts that made them create the ocari were some sacred texts of the Praeceptsreligion. The texts were not completed when they were stolen (as they had been almost destroyed a couple of weeks before), as they were on the process to be duplicated, so they only contribute to making the Praecepts look even crazier.

Not a language, but a cipher

As Ocari is not a language, when it is written it follows Istin grammar rules and vocabulary. As Istin uses a single symbol to write some words, it makes this cipher difficult to decipher.

Really cool! I love the comparison between Ocari and Istin and how the mix of similarities and differences make it really difficult to decipher.

Thanks! This prompt was really easy for me cuz I love ciphers and secret codes, but I was a bit scared for it to be not too good, so I am glad to hear you liked it!
