The Magic Trials

In the harsh age male magic users were hunted down and burned at the stake, this took place after the siege of Xares. It was known that the new Dark One of the time was a male and to avoid another catastrophe any man caught using magic was to to be put to trial. If it was determined that they may be the Dark One or just using dark magic they were to be burned at the stake. Yet many burned without trial, at the start they pretended to give fair trials but victims would often be burned regardless of the magic they used or whether they were actually mages or not.   In those seven years many male mages went into hiding as to not be found. Some hid well, others didn't. Over 50,000 were killed in the trials. Bothers and fathers of the accused would often be taken and burned along with the culprit. The church did not delineate with age, little boys not even a summer old and loving grandfathers would be burned all the same.
