Caelynn Tenithra is the
Praeses (or governor) of the
Iron Hills, and her primary duty is to lead and administrate the
Iron Hills Restoration Project. She is the first person to be selected as Praeses in Kinilan to not hold a senior military rank in 20 years, having resigned her comission after the conclusion of the Great War less than a year prior.
Early Life
Caelynn was born to a modest family of elves in the capital city of
Antius. She was a young adult during the
Kinilan Revolution, and volunteered in the revolutionary
Antius Militia, then moved on to sign up with the Kinilan Army with the establishment of the modern republic.
Military Service
Caelynn served for several years as part of the
Kinilan Peace Brigade, patrolling trade routes to discourage banditry, but was reassigned after the
First Battle of Rethis in part of the first stage of reinforcement of the
Iron Hills during the
Great War.
She fought in several battles, and worked her way up the ranks, taking several minor wounds without complaint, until her luck eventually ran out. In 1673 AE, now a lieutenant, she was leading a patrol that encountered
Riswynn Silverstone. The dwarf, by this point well known for her ability to slip through enemy lines leaving a trail of distractions and traps in her wake, slipped away after a brief engagement, and during the pursuit, Caelynn fell afoul of one of her traps, having her leg crushed so badly that it had to be amputated.
With the production of
arcanomechanical prostheses still a decade in the future, this could have spelled the end of her military career. But instead of accepting the discharge, she asked to be reassigned to desk work, and began working in the quartermaster corps to supply the army. Here, she found her true calling and worked her way up the ranks. By the end of the war, she had attained the rank of Colonel.
Appointment as Praeses
By the time the war ended, she decided she had seen more than enough of war and resigned her commission, hoping to perhaps find a quiet job working as a mercantile clerk in
Jera, but she hadn't realized how much attention she would get from her resignation. She had served in the military longer than most of the population had been alive, one of only a handful of people to have served in the Kinilan Army since the Revolution. With the Kinilan
High Council already planning a reconstruction effort to restore the Iron Hills to its prewar glory, she seemed an ideal candidate: someone tired of war, skilled at organizing the movements of people and supplies, and having a sufficiently public background in the military that those who favoured the Army's candidate might be appeased. She was tentative about accepting the position at first, but after hearing an explanation of her duties, realized this would be a chance to help reverse much of the damage to the region she had helped do during her time as an officer.
Now, she lives in Rethis, along with about 200 soldiers, artisans, farmers, etc, working hard to establish the city as a starting off point to launch reconstruction efforts throughout the region.
Hi there! You may not know me, but I am the sponsor of the Great Leader of Their People Summer Camp Prompt this year! Since you wrote this article, I would like to know, would you mind me reading it aloud on my Twitch channel this week? I have a lot to get through so it helps to do it live while people watch. I've scheduled to go live at 8am and 8pm Eastern Time every weekday. If you join and comment, I can go over your article right then and there! If you'd like to coordinate a specific date, let me know. If you aren't able to make it (or don't want to be present live), you can also always watch streams after the fact on my YouTube channel BUT, if the answer is NO because you'd rather I not, it's okay! Not agreeing to be streamed definitely does not put you at any disadvantage for winning in my eyes. Please respond swiftly by replying here (make sure to click REPLY under my comment or I won't be notified), message me on my World Anvil profile page, Discord, or anywhere else you find me online. Thanks again! Whatever you choose, God bless and much success! <3

Thanks for the offer, but I'd rather not knowingly have a critique of my writing lurking on the internet for me to hunt down at some future point. (I can be a bit irrational about criticism, and I definitely don't have the confidence to see myself as a serious contender for any of the prompt sponsorship competitions.)
I totally understand. None of the entries have been perfect and I'm not even satisfied with the ones I've written. I'm not at all a harsh judge! Still, I will definitely respect your wishes. <3 God bless and much success.
