Vali Agnisson

Marquis de Cye

Marquis Vali Agnisson is the younger son of Marquis Agni de Cye, and heir of House Cye. He, along with most of his house, is an avid but quiet supporter of the Abizin Loyalists, seeking to support their cause through subtle manipulation of the public rather than open declarations of fealty to the true King. He was among the first to join the reconstruction efforts in Rethis, offering the support of his family and their considerable resources.

Personality

Vali is a masterful manipulator who has little in the way of conscience, being as willing to betray those closest to him as those he is in open competition with. He also considers himself a connoisseur of all forms of beauty, from the artistic beauty of music and portraiture to more carnal delights. In that latter realm, his tastes cover all genders and most sapient species.

Upbringing

Vali was raised in his father's manor in the Heights, the upper class residential district of Jera. Along with his brother, Calder Agnisson, he had an excellent education, especially in the fine art of manipulation - a skill his father considers critical in the operation of an effective business. They lived a life of utter luxury, with easy access to the many delights of Jera's famed Bazaar and plenty of coin to spend. Vali grew up expecting to play a relatively minor role as an overseer of House Cye's business dealings in some distant land, but always envied his elder brother's role as heir.
The brothers were close, and shared a great many vices, particularly a fondness of philandering, brandy and cards...though not so close that Vali was not willing to put these vices to good use. He made up a number of imaginative exploits and passed them on to his brother as truth, prompting him to ever greater levels of excess. Their father tolerated this to a point, but when Calder, deep into his cups, lost an entire shipment of silks that had just arrived in port to an independant trader, then loudly invited her to his rooms upstairs to celebrate her good fortune, Marquis Agni was forced to accept that his eldest son would not be a suitable custodian for the vast fortune of House Cye, and declared Vali his heir.

Motivation and Methods

If asked directly, he simply says he is honoured to be in a position to assist with such an important project, though his true motivations are much more subtle. He does what he can to isolate and weaken Governor Caelynn Tenithra, the appointed leader of the project, doing all he can to make it seem as though all progress is being made thanks to his efforts to compensate for her supposed mistakes. This is intended to show the inherent superiority of nobility such as himself over those of common stock, such as the Governor, subtly swaying people's sympathies back in favour of the feudal system that ruled Kinilan prior to the revolution over a century ago.
