Session 15: the Joyous Entry Report

General Summary

My king,   It is with a heavy heart that I report the events of today. Once more the fragile peace between our great city of Keralon and the mighty Fenhunter was threatened by the actions of cowardly cultists. Thank the gods for the actions of the Circles of the Outer Ring, for it was two of the knights of the Long Table and one of the knights of the Moon Blossoms that saved the day.   The day started off as planned. The Fenhunter’s delegation approached the western gate at the appointed hour and an escort of 4 knights stood ready to greet them and accompany them to Palace Hill. The people were out in droves and had taken to singing and feasting along the route the procession would take. The day held the promise of becoming a day of peace and prosperity for all.   The attack happened early in the procession. Not far from the western gate three assassins opened fire on one of the dignitaries, Norgar Laar. He was wounded and fell from the drake he was riding. His own men and our knights acted quickly, which probably saved his life. While a nearby knight of the long table offered healing, a little over a dozen robed figures attacked the procession. The quickly established defensive perimeter held and we easily drove them back. The dignitaries suffered no further injuries.   I later learned that the assassins on the roof had backup in the form of an undead creature and even a manticore. The previously mentioned knights of the Long Table and Moon Blossoms engaged and defeated them, with some aid from non-knighted friends.   While the attack was a surprise, the number of assailants was insufficient to be a real threat. The true purpose of the attack was made clear to me when one of the knights of the Long Table revealed that one of the robed attackers had stolen a gem from the wounded dignitary as he laid on the ground.   The hedge knights retrieved the gem and returned it to me. They had tracked the thief after he had absconded with the gem and forced him into a confrontation. Here too the villains seemed to be able to call on more powerful backup as a golem made up of human parts came to the thief’s aid. Unable to wound the monster, they instead lured it to more experienced knights with magical armaments. These warriors made quick work of the creature.   In the aftermath I thanked the hedge knights for their service and paid them with a few minor trinkets. I gave them a magical sword and two golden rings. It does bear mentioning that these knights and their friends were the same individuals who had escorted Norgar Laar into the city a week prior. They seem connected to these events, either through their involvement with the Fenhunter’s delegation or through a bond with these cultists. I suggest you allow us to keep a closer eye on them in these coming weeks.   After Norgar Laar was healed the delegation made their way to Palace Hill uninterrupted. They arrived safely and our good relationship with the Fenhunter remains secure. I do suggest providing additional guards for both delegates for the duration of their stay. It might also be wise to ask the Circles to provide this security instead of relying on our own city watch. Our guards have been infiltrated in the past after all.   For your honor,   Sir Donovan,   10 Nuan 126 EOT
