Master Plot: The Eternal Night
The seal used to lock away Takhisis (as can be read in Deities history) was faltering in recent years due to the exact reason Takhisis feared. The four pillars were losing their agency on the world Irodan due to them being forgotten by their patrons and losing supporters.
While this would never solely be enough to break the seal and free Takhisis, Takhisis did however regain the ability to talk to the inhabitants of Irodan. Whispering to the leader of one of the Drow tribes in the underdark, Takhisis managed to start a movement that should inevitably lead to her returning to her full power as a deity of Irodan. The specific drow that was approached was Illidan Valweth of the Valweth tribe.
Takhisis requested them to secretely rebuild the once holy city of Umbra. Killing any trespassers that didn't equal their devotion to Takhisis, it took a decade to rebuild to city with Valweth tribe and newly acquired clerics of Takhisis. Within Umbra, the holy chapel of Takhsis had been rebuilt. This restored a small amount of Takhisis' power which was enough to cloud the city from the view of others, hide it in an eternal night and thus ensure the secret progression of her newly acquired allies.
Ready to extend her domain and begin her vengeance on the traiterous gods, Takhisis reached out to more of the underdark, promising many of them "the wide lands of Irodan can be yours if you do my bidding. Reclaim the holy cities in my name and I shall grant you the eternal night". While their role in the eternal night were essential, Takhisis holds no true value in the lives of those that follow her. She is only motivated by her revenge on the traiterous gods and the lands of Irodan that dared to forget her, and her quest to restore her power to its former glory.
Over the following decades, Takhisis' divines continued to conquer various major holy cities on the surface of Irodan. The cities conquered are Holimion (dedicated to the god Pelor) and Beorys' sacred grounds (dedicated to Beory). Infesting and reinforcing her grip on each of these cities by bringing various creatures from the underdark to wander the lands that are now covered in the eternal night. The final city, Draconia, dedicated to Boccob, Takhisis hasn't succeeded in conquering due to its defendable location and militarised inhabitants.
Holimion was infected by a small army of Mindflayers. Convincing the mindflayers that the world above would hold vast amounts of knowledge yet unlearned by them and with the final promise to allow them to inspect and investigate the entire surface of Irodan, the mindflayers were convinced that Takhisis' deal was worth taking. After the city had been shaken up by a small army of orcs, hired by the Valweths, the mindflayers entered the city through holes that were opened up by machines of metal created by the orc. After the orcs took their trophies and opened up the path for the mindflayers, the deal was that any left in the city was the mindflayers' to take. This however took an unexpected turn as the first target in the mindflayers' eye was the minds of all the living beings left in the city, including the orcs.
After a small but very onesided fight, the remaining orcs were defeated and devoured or had fled the city. A majority of which however managed to escape with their pristoners and loot in tow.
The conquering of Beorys' sacred grounds was a short and simple one, for it was already abandoned. The grounds still being as holy and pristine as they were when they were shapen, Beorys' devout followers had left her many years ago. Spare for the occasional traveling cleric of Beory, no following was left to protect the grounds from the conversion. After a handful of Takhisis' clerics entered the area and converted it, Beorys' sacred grounds had now too fallen too Takhisis' control.
To cease control of the area, and further deface and insult Beory , the goddess of nature, Takhisis let the pristine and massive lake be infested by a group of aboleths. As they are known for, the aboleths caused the waters to become poisenous, the nearby forests diseased and the nearby wildlife sparse.
Waging war against the holy city of Draconia until this day, Takhisis aims to recover her lost powers by disabling the three remaining pillars of irodan and exact vengeance on the people of Irodan who forgot her and the four pillars that cast her away.
The current situation is that Takhisis continues to gather (or trick) more allies into assisting her twisted plot while communicating with her lead of command, Illidan Valweth , to command her army.
A band of afflicted and curious adventurers must travel to prevent the surface from falling to darkness.
