Collapse of the Kindmountian empire

The Collapse of the Kindmountian empire was a process by which the vast territory of the Nation of the Generous Mountain  was divided, annexed, or made independent, leaving behind a much weaker Kindmountian rump state.   The collapse of the Kindmountian empire is generally considered to start in 4286 HE (135 YT), at the end of the Kindmountian-Harmonic War, in the aftermath of which Kindmount lost land to the Violet Coast in the west and north and to the Harmony  in the east and south-east. Some scholars place the start of the undoing of the Kindmountian empire at 4274 HE (129 YT), at the start of the Violet Coast raids on Kindmount's western territories, during which Kindmount lost control of some of its camps, bases and cities in the west and north.   The fall of Kindmount ends in 4297 HE (141 YP), with the end of the Free Prosperous Nation's independence war, which set Kindmount's western border at Crayfish River.

Causes of the Collapse

Political instability

The Casteless Council at the time of the start of the Violet Coast raids in 4274 HE / 129 YT was politically inefficient, following in the footsteps of the previous three governments. While the council was de jure casteless, caste allegiances tended to endure. The caste-composition of the council was sometimes dominated by a single caste following a good performance in the council accession competitions. Caste politics often blinded councilbirds, who opposed members who had belonged to rival castes.
