Great Harmony

The Harmony of the Great River, also known as the Great Harmony or simply as the Harmony, was a nation originating around the north of the Great River in the Great-Mountains Land before expanding westwards then down the river during the Harmonic Golden Age. It was one of the three great nations of the Classical Era, and was the most influential Long Lake Civilization nation.

Geography

As the name suggests, the main settlements and habitations of the Harmony were along the Great River, which flows from the Great-Eye Lake to the eastern coast of the Vast South. As such, Harmonic geography was very suitable for large-scale agriculture. After the Kindmountian-Harmonic War, the Great Harmony acquired land to the west of the Northern Great River, in the Valley of Hope, the Land of the Giants and the Land of the Deathclaws. The edge of these lands remained, for the duration of the nation's existence, the Harmony's farthest territories from the Great River.

History

Founding and Moa Clan Integration War.

The Harmony of the Great River was founded in 13 YP (4042 HE), as a union of multiple clans along the north of the Great River, in the Great-Mountains Land.   Though negotiations were sucessful for the southern clans of the region, the Moa Clan, along with the Eye Bay Clan and John's Clan, refused to join. In response, the newly formed Harmony invaded the at-the-time most powerful and largest clan: the Moa Clan. This sparked the Moa Clan Integration War, which was fought in 28 YP (4043 HE) and 29 YP (4045 HE), with year of tranquility separating the fighting. It ultimately ended in the Harmony's victory. The victors divided the Moa Clan into three clans so as to weaken their former enemy, and integrated them as dependent yet autonomous clans.   In response to the war, the Dual Cities of Eye Bay and John's was formed between the two clans which had refused to join the Harmony, in order to protect themselves from a potential invasion. However, the Moa Clan Integration War was much more costly than the Harmony expected, and the young federation was in no position to start another invasion.   This became more or less the status quo until the rapid expansion of Kindmount.

The Kindmountian Threat of the Second Century

Near the start of the second century of the Dual Year Calendar System, around 4200 HE (92 YP), the Nation of the Generous Mountain started rapidly expanding both to their north and south, along the Gray River and near Spear River Valley. Both these regions were regions which the Harmony viewed as within their sphere of influence, and potential routes for future expansion.   This expansion continued until Kindmount suffered raids from the Violet Coast empire to their west in 4274 HE. By that time, Kindmount had established colonies in all directions, and relations between it and the Harmony were tense.

The Kindmountian-Harmonic War

Main article: Kindmountian-Harmonic War   The tensions between the two nations culminated in the Kindmountian-Harmonic War, which saw nearly three years of combat over the course of almost six years, during the years of passion. The war ended in the Harmony's favor, with the Harmony gaining new territory to the west and integrating the Dual Cities into the federation.

Harmonic Golden Age

Main article: Harmonic Golden Age   Following the war, the Great Harmony entered into the Harmonic Golden Age, a period of time synonymous with the Late Classical Era during which Harmonic philosophy, technology, and culture were exploding and spreading across the Vast South. The Harmonic Golden Age saw the expansion of the Harmony along the south of the Great River. It is during this period that the Harmony was at its height, both economically, culturally, and regarding land-area.   The Harmonic Golden Age also saw a boom in philosophical questions and political theories, including the questioning of the non-linear caste sytsem model and the idea of a ruling assembly that was not necessarily philosophically educated.
