Crow's Casks

A sign over the door to this two-story stone building depicts a group of drunken crows perched on a leaky cask. Crow's Casks is more than just a popular tavern and brewery, it also serves as a shrine to Cayden Cailean. The proprietor, a Tengu alchemist named Magiloy gives the establishment it's name. Prior to Magiloy purchasing the tavern in 4711AR it was known as The Shrike's Thorn. A few of the town's older inhabitant's still occasionally refer to it as 'The Thorn'.

Magiloy's ability to craft unusual, yet quality beverages has always been a selling point for the establishment, but the recent hiring of Jogo Cloubert, an esteemed Halfling chef, has cemented Crow's Casks as the best place for quality food and drink within the town. While the seafood at Crook's Nook certainly matches the food here, the ale comes up well short of matching the peculiar brews produced at Crow's Casks. A typical menu for Crow's Casks would normally comprise of 4 or 5 beverages brewed or distilled on the premises and a couple of wines from around the Inner Sea as Magiloy receives deliveries from Absalom, courtesy of Gallentine Deliveries. The Menu for the month of Pharast 4723AR is depicted at the bottom of this entry.   The accomodation above the brewery consists of a common room which sleeps 4 on pallets, a twin bedded room and Magiloy's personal room. There is also a shared bathroom, with toilet.

History

The two-storey building now known as Crow's Cask's was originally built in 4325AR as a single storey, stone residential property of some size for wealthy arborist, Gratus Licia, after he was persuaded to move to Otari by Maklanni Menhemes. Upon his death, Maklanni took ownership whilst Menhemes Manor was under construction. Upon completion of the manor in 4331AR, Maklanni moved out and commissioned a second storey to be added and sold the property as an tavern to cater for Otari's ever growing population. The Inn has changed hands (and names) multiple times in the nigh on 400 years since it's original construction, with renovation work frequent, so the tavern remains in a state of good repair. The most recent names include The Otari Rose (until 4583AR), The Kobold's Curse (until 4623AR), Absalom Arms (until 4625AR), The Shrikes Thorn (until 4711AR) up to it's current incarnation as The Crow's Cask.

Tourism

Over the last couple of years the reputation of Magiloy's ales has spread beyond Otari, to the point where ale buffs and Cayden Cailean devotees frequently make the trip along the coast to sample her tasty and sometimes eccentric flavour combinations.
The rooms upstairs were thus repurposed, with Magiloy moving from the larger bedroom (now serving as a common room) to the smallest bedroom, previously used to store her books on the art of brewing, her recipe books and her romantic literature. These books are still stored here, with Magiloy now also resident, in these somewhat cramped quarters.
