Kryla
Kryla is a formerly thriving metropolitan area located at the crux of the Paradon and the Little Paradon Rivers. It was once the largest, most populous city on the Isle of Melas, and the capital of the Krylan Coalition. For the previous 400+ years, since the The Elemental Sundering, it has laid in ruin and disrepair. It is currently home to a number of warring factions, each controlling different sections of the city. The center of Kryla, the Bowen Castle, is controlled by an unknown entity or entities and is rumored by all in the city to be haunted.
Demographics
The populace of Kryla are mostly human, with a smattering of other humanoid and demihuman species. Most are clustered together in like groups. Notable inhabitant species include:
- Humans
- Dwarves
- Centaurs
- N'elves, or Near-elves (humans and other humanoids with some elven blood and notable elven characteristics)
- Non-savage Lizardfolk
- Kobolds
Government
At present, Kryla has no centralized governing body. The various factions of the city control different sectors, and each war with the other for control.
Defences
Each District has its own set of defenses. There is no overall city defense.
Industry & Trade
Districts will often trade with each other for various needs, and occasionally have contact with settlements outside of Kryla to supply their people.
Districts
There are seven main districts of control in Kryla, each with its own distinct population, leadership and access to resources.
- Centaur Prime
- Lower East
- Harbor Knights
- Upper Little
- Tall North
- The Barrens
- Red Eye
Assets
When Kryla fell during the The Elemental Sundering there were a number of sources of goods and arms ready to be picked up. As most of the population had lost their cultural, and in some cases individual memories, few remembered who owned what and why.
Points of interest
- Rivers Kryla is trisected around the point where the Paradon River splits off the Little Paradon, and continues south to the Southern Sea.The Paradon north of the split is wide and was once transversed by the Bridge of Beira, but the middle section was destroyed long ago and is no longer crossable. The Paradon south of the split is narrower and is crossed by several bridges, most in bad repair. The Little Paradon is very narrow, and is crossed by many bridges. It is almost narrow and shallow enough in some spots to cross on foot.
- Harbor The Krylan Harbor, once called “The Split,” was at one time a thriving hub of shipping and commerce. Now few legit trading operations attempt to dock here, as the Harbor is now controlled by pirates. In the center of the Harbor are several islands, on one of which once stood a set of statues dedicaed to Lord Bieric, his son and his grandson. The Son's statue is all but destroyed and the head of Lord Bieric's statue has long been lost. The Grandson statue is more or less intact.
- Bowen Castle Atop a large rise in the center of the city sits Bowen Castle, former seat of government for the city and the entire Krylan Coalition. When the city fell during the The Elemental Sundering and Lord Joshua L'Bowen disappeared, it has been publicly uninhabited. For centuries it has reportedly been haunted and is not visited by any but the extremely brave (or foolhardy).
