Animal-kin
Animal-kin are the source of many myths among the Earth humans, due to the fact that they vanished from it, causing Earth to subsequently forget what this race truly is. However, within Issolum, this species is widespread and well varied. The animal-kin has spawned ideas which Earth humans called centaurs, angels, mermaids, naga, satyrs, werewolves and others, but, in actuality, they are descendants of the original hybrids between animal and fey. As tribal races, they tend to be very protective of the lands which are theirs, and have managed to do far less damage to their environment than humans have. Their main flaw is their persistent knack for getting into trouble - as individuals - due to their undying curiosity. Rare indeed is the feline-kin that has not been in hot water at one point or another, or the avian-kin that has not fallen from a great height, or the piscine-kin that has not found themselves stranded on dry land. True, this varies from species to species, and some, like the chelonian-kin, are usually well-behaved, but all told, this race affords me nary a dull moment.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Animal-kin skin color holds the same range that human does, with slight tones of other colors occasionally being present depending on the animal. However, their hair and fur (or feathers or scales, etc) tends to reflect the colors which might be present in that species of animal, and, if shaved or plucked, the skin underneath would reflect the covering like an animal of that kind - for example, a horse's or dog's skin being black if their fur is dark, but pink if it is light. Eye color can be any color of the rainbow.
Genetics and Reproduction
Reproduction varies from species to species - from the brief gestational period of the Avian-kin to the frequent multiples of the Feline-kin, each set of reproductive statistics varies based on the original animal the -kin came from.
Ecology and Habitats
The largest percentage of animal-kin live within their own country of Arostalia, but it is far from unheard of for smaller groups to settle in nearly any hospitable environment. Within their country, groups are divided among species, and nearly all tribal groups are nomadic, with few known settlements. Animal-kin regard themselves as guests of the land, and treat the land with care, hunting and gathering rather than turning to agriculture. Their government consists of tribe leaders who will, on occasion, meet with each other, but more often than not keep to themselves. Their natural curiosity, however, does tend to lead to importation of some novelty items from Galt, such as hair (and feather) dyes - and those who settle in Galt tend to find their footing rather quickly, merging with the locals easily despite animal characteristics. It's quite a normal sight to see animal-kin inside of Galt or other cities.
