Dragonfyre

Contrary to popular belief, not every dragon can produce flame. Many are more closely attuned to other elements, such as acid or cold, and produce these with their deadly breath attacks. The confusion stems from ancient legends that tell of an extremely rare material able to be summoned by all of dragonkind, referred to as 'dragonfyre' for its visual similarity to a lit flame.
The blade alone was quite ordinary - worked steel engraved with nonsensical words in their barbaric language. But in combat, it took on qualities it could otherwise never bear. Such was the blessing of dragonfyre.

Properties

Material Characteristics

The flame's exact characteristics often vary depending on the dragon that spawned it. That of a golden dragon will burn brightly in the sunset colours of an ordinary flame but with a core of shimmering gold, whilst a black dragon's dragonfyre would instead take on the sickly green hue of deadly acid and the jet-black tinge of their scales. Its size may be regulated by its creator, but is still fully dependent on the dragon's own powers - a younger and weaker dragon would never be able to summon a great wyrm's walls of flame.   These base characteristics may then further be altered by the dragon's wishes upon the flame's creation. If created for the chaos of battle, a given piece of dragonfyre may burn wildly and uncontrollably, needing to be secured by enchanted glass or similar protections. A fragment intended for a princess's crown, however, might remain small and orderly - perhaps even small and orderly enough to fit inside of a gemstone without suspicion.
