Granik Donderiall, father to Burdyr Donderiall and husband to Greynshal Donderiall, was a loyal Gildón citizen and soldier. He was stubby even amongst other dwarves - small, with a personality like sandpaper and tough as old boots. He had a magnificent head of dark brown hair that, in his later years, bushed out and went completely greyed and mad. His right cheek was scarred - just one amongst a heap of other scars he collected from his service in the army. He was always a bit to handle for others, but he never once was too hard on his family - especially not his son.
His family were the only ones that saw the softer, goofier side to him - playing little jokes, and having a laugh when he could, but still commanding a lot of authority. When it came to his son joining the army, Granik wouldn’t stop the boy. He understood why. But he wouldn’t leave Burdyr without a warning:
Ther’ nae tae gin in that mud tha’ blood an’ pain. Yae bleed an’ yae hurt fer yer family, yer neighbour... But nae ferget that yer nae more ae man fer doon it tae he who’d sit aside.Burdyr learnt the full nature of this when he returned from the Gildón-Fjolkan war. His father, though old, consoled his son over the loss of his husband and squad, as someone who understood better than most of the suffering war brought. He passed away in the year 5607 at the age of 194.
