Stratus

Stratus is a young and vibrant city located in the south-west of Akera. Despite being landlocked, the city boasts a rich cultural heritage and is known for its world-class university, which has become a beacon of knowledge and innovation in the region.   The city was founded about 200 years ago by a group of explorers and adventurers who were drawn to the area's natural beauty and abundant resources. They saw the potential for a thriving city that could serve as a center for trade, commerce, and education.   The University of Stratus was founded shortly after the city's establishment and quickly became the cornerstone of the community. It is now one of the most prestigious universities in the world, attracting students and scholars from all over Akera and beyond. The university is known for its cutting-edge research, innovative teaching methods, and diverse student body.   Over the years, Stratus has grown into a bustling metropolis with a thriving economy, diverse population, and vibrant cultural scene. Despite its rapid growth and modernization, the city has managed to preserve its rich history and unique character. Visitors to Stratus can explore its many museums, art galleries, and historic landmarks, and experience the vibrant energy of this dynamic and forward-thinking city.   After years of corrupt rule under King Leopold, a group of former mercenaries led by Dowgan Davver, Barmun, Gringulon Fullnerrhy, K.AN.E, and Mirwyn Nemonis overthrew the government and established themselves as the Council of Five Lords.

Defences

The defenses of Stratus are relatively basic, but effective. The city is surrounded by a stone wall that stands about 30 feet tall and is about 15 feet thick at its widest point. The wall is patrolled by guards armed with crossbows and spears, and there are watchtowers positioned along the wall at regular intervals to provide a clear view of the surrounding countryside. In addition to the wall, there is a large, heavily fortified gate that serves as the main entrance to the city. The gate is made of thick iron bars and is protected by a drawbridge that can be raised to prevent intruders from entering. The gatehouse itself is a multi-story structure with arrow slits and murder holes to allow defenders to rain arrows and rocks down on any attackers.   Inside the city, there are several smaller walls that serve to divide the city into different sections. These walls are also made of stone and are patrolled by guards armed with swords and shields. The city also has a standing army of several hundred soldiers, who are trained in a variety of different fighting styles and are equipped with a range of weapons, from swords and axes to bows and crossbows.

Industry & Trade

As Stratus is landlocked, it heavily relies on internal trade and trade routes that run through it to the surrounding nations. Its metalworking industry is a significant part of its economy, producing weapons, armor, and tools. The city is known for producing high-quality steel and iron, and its metalworking guild is highly respected. The guild members produce intricate pieces of jewelry, decorative items, and weapons for the Knights of Stratus. Farming is also an important industry in Stratus, with much of the surrounding land used for crops and animal husbandry. The city produces a wide variety of crops, including wheat, barley, oats, and vegetables, which are traded to nearby cities and towns. The city's wineries produce fine wines that are sold throughout the continent, and its breweries are known for their hearty ales.   In addition to its metalworking and farming industries, Stratus is home to skilled artisans who produce fine textiles, ceramics, and glassware. The city's merchants trade these goods, as well as its agricultural and metalworking products, through caravans and ships that travel the trade routes that run through the region.
