A'bel Clinic (ah-bell)
The A'bel Clinic is a government-run hospital in Amberfrey, Lusatia. It is known to be a state-of-the-art research and treatment facility, and is the highest-ranked facility for treating cancers and Magic Calcification in all of Ithan. This hospital is funded by the government of Lusatia, and the people who work here are considered honorary officials within the government.
Patients
All citizens of Lusatia are provided care at this hospital free of charge, but non-citizens generally have to pay a fee to be treated here. If a non-citizen patient dies during treatment, this fee is waived. In certain cases, the A'bel Clinic will waive the fees of non-citizens who die within a single season of treatment as well.
Treatments
Patients of the A'bel Clinic are provided with whichever treatment they need regardless of the cost to the hospital itself. The clinic's staff pride themselves on providing the highest quality treatments and services possible to their patients, and they truly do live up to the promised standards set forth. Treatments range from magically-induced healing to blood transfusions to surgery to genetic reconstitution. Lusatia is an important country in the field of medical research thanks to the studies done in this hospital. It is also a major supplier of state-of-the-art treatments to other nations for the same reason.
Hospice and End-of-Life Care
Even if the treatments produced and used by this hospital are the best of the best, there are some things they simply cannot cure. For patients stricken with potentially terminal illnesses, the A'bel Clinic provides two options: a hospice service and physician-assisted suicide. These options are choices each patient with a fatal condition makes themself. While in the care of the hospice, the patient lives at their own home or within the hospital. Their symptoms are treated as they appear. The patient's quality of life in their final days is of the utmost importance to the hospital. With hospice, patients have their choice of funerary preparations and burial.
Physician-assisted suicide, on the other hand, allows the patient to painlessly end their life before the disease takes it from them. The option for suicide is restricted to patients with diseases that will cause extreme suffering or are guaranteed to be fatal. The patients who take this option are barred from having their bodies cremated or otherwise burned after death. This is due to the compound used to provide as painless a death as possible — the anesthetic Aliodium — being extremely flammable and prone to exploding when exposed to great amounts of heat.
Providing the option to help patients commit suicide is a hotly debated topic outside of Lusatia, but is a widely accepted idea within the country.
