Leira

The Mistshadow

Leira, also known as The Lady of the Mists and The Lady of Deception, is the goddess of deception and illusion hailing from foreign lands on the distant continent of Ocrios, brought to Ivaenni by merchants. Although she on her home continent of Ocrios was mainly given offerings by folk to keep her at bay, on Ivaenni she is a far more popular deity. Not only is she worshiped by liars and thieves, she is looked on with favour by merchants, in particular, as she isn't simply a malicious liar.

Personality

Leira is an enigmatic being, delighting in creating misinformation in all of its forms: rumours, legends, and stories, among other things. Everything she does and says she covered with layers of illusion and falsehood. Still, she is not a malicious power, and has no great and glorious plans or ambitions. Unlike evil or impatient powers, she doesn't atomize those that uninvited intrude her realm, instead choosing to keep them trapped or restrained. She is a very private power, and she keeps few very close friends, among them the fellow deity of illusion Mask. She has a formal, cordial relationship of cooperation with Azuth, patron of spellcasters, while she is disliked by Tyr, who loathes lies and pursues justice through truth, and she is opposed by Oghma, as her lies are a hindrance to knowledge in his opinion.

Appearance

Leira's appearance is not uniform in all accounts of encounters with her. It's assumed that she is a shape shifter, and able to take whatever form she wishes to take, not simply with illusions, but fully. She most often take the appearance of a beautiful young woman, which has lended itself to her being assumed a woman, though her followers are aware that she on occasion might take a more masculine form. Leira's true appearance isn't known, and though she seems to have a preferred gender, she is rarely ever depicted in religious art. Though not forbidden to depict her, it is seen as disrespectful to do so, and only fringe groups and casual people that worship her might depict her in imagery; after all, they don't know what she really looks like, and one does not want to assume. It is, however, encouraged to always change the description of her appearance if asked, to keep the mystery strong.
