Viscount/Viscountess

Duties

Viscounts/Viscountesses function very much as middle-managers ensuring that the will of the Empire is well spread throughout the lands and the several baronies under their command. Viscounts specifically share a special role within the Church of the Seldarine as being responsible for the spreading of the true faith within their lands. They rule from castles and keeps and maintain standing armies within these walls to ensure the safety of the realm.

Responsibilities

Viscounts serve the will of the Church and the Crown to ensure rebellious behavior is pressed and destroyed. They do not concern themselves with normal banditry as the Barons, Lords, and Knights should deal with them.

Benefits

Viscounts/Viscountesses are granted extensive lands, castles, and armies to command. They are entitled to their lieges earnings as is a tradition as well as levied soldiers if requested. They have the ability to afford extremely fine luxuries and often can gain access to lesser magical items if they are willing to pay for them. Viscounts can reasonably access armies of the low thousands if they deem it necessary (although raising and feeding such a force is extremely disorienting for the villages they are raised from and will often temporarily cripple local economies). There will normally be between 2-4 Baronies within a Viscounty
