Melora, The Wild-Mother

Goddess Melora Il'mare (a.k.a. The Wildmother)

She is known by many names and beloved by races across the world. Melora is one of the few members of the Divine Forum whose fame and power goes beyond her pantheon. Many druids and clerics that believe in Melora often omit the rest of the Divine Forum from their preaching. Another thing that separates her from the other Deities of the Divine Forum is how she interacts with mortals. Melora, Vivinora, Alice, Lilith, Seiryu, and Leanan Sidhe are the only ones in mortal history that seem to have had direct involvement in the daily lives of mortals. While all the Divine Forum deities used to be mortal, the rest of the Forum tend to dwell within their own realms.

Melora, also often known as The Wildmother, is the Divine Forum Goddess of Nature and Life. She oversees all of Jade's natural forms of life. It is believed that her touch has formed every trace of life in the world, from the smallest blade of grass to the largest tree. Even the people of Jade were given the essence of life by her grace. Her personality has been described as whimsical and lighthearted, but she has also proven to be very caring and thoughtful.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Overall, Melora was a very healthy female Elf. She was forced a very healthy diet (when she was allowed to eat) starting at a young age. She was considered very beautiful, the prettiest of all of her siblings.

Special abilities

Rumor says that one glance at her smile will warm a mortal's heart and feel at ease. Many mortals that see her fallen in love with her, and may be cursed with the knowledge that they will never see a woman more beautiful than her.

Apparel & Accessories

She often wears white lacey dresses and nothing else. No shoes, little to no jewelry, no underclothes. Any accessory she wears would be a "gift of nature," may it be a flower in her hair, a twig behind her ear, or vines around her arm.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Very little is known about Melora's past. When told by the Wildmother, details get rewritten and darker parts get overlooked. When told by sages and druids, the story gets exaggerated and moved to teach whatever lessons they wish to teach.

From combined accounts, the following story parts of Melora's mortal past are usually consistent, no matter who tells the story:
  • Melora was born as Elf Maiden of a now "dead" house of nobility, called "House Il'mare." Her eyes were originally brown. Her hair was a dark-orange/red. She was average height. She often wore white, which was her noble family's main house color. She grew up in a wooded area of what is now Elvendom.
  • Melora was not an only child, her family was large and most of them became Divines. She has 6 sisters (5 of blood relation, 1 adopted). The Il'mare "Blood" Sisters were: Melora (Goddess of the Wilds), Seiryu (Goddess of Justice), Leanan Sidhe (Goddess of Fire and Love), Alice (Goddess of Death), and Faera ("Lady of Mortals"). Vivinora was a Triton adopted by the Il'mare family. She is the oldest sibling.
  • The Il'mare sisters faced abuse and toxic environments at home, and each sister ran away and found solace elsewhere. Melora escaped into the forest, where she began to harness Nature's Gifts and became a druid.
  • Melora's Mortal self could be considered to be one of the most powerful druids that have ever lived.
  • Melora is one of the only sisters to die of old age.
  • She worked for the sole benefit of the forests and landscapes of the world all her life, never wanting reward. The last of her energy was spent on magic to drain a forest of "Dire Energy." She was almost a thousand years old.
  • Because of her, the amount of deforestation and industrial impact to Jade of the Kalashtar Empire is hardly mentioned in history books. She alone was able to counter the effects of the destruction of most of Jade's resources.
  • For her efforts as a true guardian of nature, The Divines granted her a position among them to symbolize that power and act as an omnipotent force of nature.

Gender Identity

Melora identifies as female.

Sexuality

Melora has had many lovers but has never married. She has no preference, thus she would identify as pansexual.

Education

In her teenage years, She received a noble's level of formal education. This could be equated to a "High School" level education with some University level courses.

Employment

At the time of her mortal life, noble women did not seek work nor were ever employed by another mortal.

Accomplishments & Achievements

In Elvendom, she created a bastion of wildlife in a region known as "The Great Forest" (due to malpractice of magic, this area then became filled with space-time distortions and became the "Forest of Time"). In the Dale, she fostered a dying tree back to life, this tree became the largest tree in the Dale and is known as the "Life Tree." It is the most sacred tree in the Dale. Throughout the world, Melora's Mortal self was constantly combating the destructive effects the Kalashtar Empire had on the environment. She was so successful in mitigating this effect that the Kalashtar never understood or noticed the effects they had.

Failures & Embarrassments

Melora constantly holds herself responsible for failing to be a better sibling to her sisters. Melora was the last to run away from home, but the first to plan to leave. In her original plan, She and her 5 sisters were going to escape together, but her siblings found alternative ways out and escaped on their own. The abuse placed on Alice and Vivinora were the harshest she witnessed and regrets not being able to help them. After they escaped, Melora had lost contact with them, only to meet them again in the Divine Forum. She wished she could've found Vivinora and Alice before they became gods as she feels like her presence could've taken them off the more "evil" paths they found themselves on.

Mental Trauma

Melora and her sisters suffered many years of variations of physical and emotional abuse by both of their parents. Melora in particular was raised to be a perfect lady of the court and was "groomed" to be a perfect wife to a future noble husband. Her mother was very strict on her diet and schooling, verbally abusing her in a way a bully would. Melora often thought her mother was jealous of her daughter's youthful complexion. Her father was the same kind of abusive to her as he was to all the rest. He was a drunk and constantly displeased with his life and family. When he was sober, he constantly seemed disappointed with the way that his children had turned out. When drunk, he was rather "physical" with any and all "pretty women."

Intellectual Characteristics

Melora had a gentle spirit despite her upbringing. She had a soft spot for animals and impoverished people. She is considered kind and generous, but intolerant to bigotry and men of great egos.

Morality & Philosophy

She believes that Jade and it's wildlife came first in the world. That makes Jade "their" home and all of the people are simply guests in that home. Only the wildlife are entitled to the world we live in.

Taboos

Melora's protective stance of nature is aggressive against any force that may exploit nature's resources. Crusades have been blessed in her name. She has created violent storms to wipe out whole cities. Many monsters that are now found commonly in nature exist to kill trespassers and poachers. She has no qualms with the idea of killing thousands to protect nature's bounty.
