The Eight

Structure

The Eight are comprised of the ruling members of Aergradde's seven ruling houses and an Eighth Lord who presides over the Aristocracy which rules Aergradde. The Ruling members of the seven houses of Aergradde fill there roles in accordance with terms and conditions specific to their house, most hold their position until death or abdication.   The Eighth Lord is selected from one of the seven houses every six years and, officially, outranks all other members. In the power vacuum created by the dissolution of the Iorian Empire, Lord Theodore of House Balthazar has been selected to lead The Eight and Aergradde on the promise of revenge against the monsters and Fey to the east.

Public Agenda

The world has cast off the shackles of empire and in its wake, Aergradde, long suppressed by her tottering overlords, will thrive. Righteous justice will be wrought against her enemies to the east and she will come to mediate the tumultuous Titansblood River Valley.

History

The power of the Eighth Lord has historically depended on the standing of their house and willingness of the six other houses to support them. In times of peace, internal politics tend to sap away the political power of the Eighth Lord, causing many national governmental functions to grind to a halt, while soldiers return to their houses and each house vies for power against one another and turns to local concerns.   For the first time in almost a millenium, the Aristocracy of Aergradde are entirely politically autonomous, answering to no imperial power. In a bid for power and favor, Lord Theodore of House Balthazar has directed Aergradde on a series of great crusades against the Woodlanders to the east, beginning the bloody War of Horse and Oak.
