Icing

An uncommon Gifted Power, Icers can freeze moisture and control ice and snow. Icing is often confused with Frosting, which is a similar but separate (and stronger) power.

Effect

by Lilliana Casper
Icing allows a Gifted to freeze liquid or moisture into ice or snow. They can then control the ice and snow that they create, along with any existing ice or snow. Icers cannot create ice or snow, nor can they use their power if they are too hot. Their power is limited but still dangerous and occasionally deadly. Untrained Icers can cause injuries ranging from minor to crippling, and accidentally freeze over entire rooms or their own food and water.   Icing has been used for years as a way to ensure lakes and ponds are safe for walking or skating, chill beverages, help prevent blood clotting in medical scenarios, create temporary walls, and dehumidify buildings. The country of Rifthaven uses them in the manufacturing of Blackwater Ice. Icers are also useful in more violent situations like wars, battles, and other conflicts by creating swords, arrows, walls, and sometimes even freezing the air in a person's lungs.

Side/Secondary Effects

Icers exhibit Downside symptoms of nausea, headaches, retching, uncontrollable bleeding, hallucinations, multiple personalities, and mood swings. An Icer will not exhibit all of these symptoms, but all have been recorded. Aside from Downsides, Icers can accidentally hurt themselves or others if they lose control of their power.

Manifestation

When Icing is used, the air chills by several degrees until the Icer has accomplished their task. Water or moisture will freeze, often gravitating toward the Icer and forming a cloud. Contrary to some common beliefs, the ice is not created, just frozen and manipulated.

Discovery

Icing was discovered sometime in the 500s BEA. It was often confused with Frosting, but guidelines for the differences were soon made.

Applied Restrictions

Due to its elemental properties, Icing is observed carefully, and newly manifested Icers are trained to control their abilities by more experienced Gifteds.

Isn't this sculpture beautiful? Marilia made it for me last May. You'd never know from her distance and power, but she's quite warmhearted.

Author's Notes

This was my first time ever trying to implant images in an article while writing the said article. It took way longer than it needed to, and I now have too many pictures of ice and snow. I plan on adding some to this article when I can.

The images look really good! :D I had a little laugh at the idea of someone accidentally freezing the food they were trying to eat. XD   I like the inclusion of recent Gifted icers.

Thank you! I had some difficulties adding the photos, but it all worked out. The Icers who accidentally freeze their food probably use it as a joke or excuse once they get more control: "Oh no, I froze my food! Guess I can't eat dinner, Mom. Sorry!"

Lilliana Casper   I don't comment much, but I love reading your articles! Please check out my worlds, Jerde and Tread of Darkness.
