Seal Key

Jerna's Diary, Entry 1045.
New island! I believe this is the first island in the Northern Archipelago that I've discovered, and it is gorgeous. There are hills and mountains everywhere, forests of all kinds, I am beyond excited to explore it all. I have also spotted a massive city on the south of the island, the buildings are a bright green so kind of hard to spot. I am so excited, it looks high-tech too which is a nice change of pace since everywhere I've been for the past 12 years hasn't been very advanced. Most of the time people spend gawking at my notescreen and Little L.

Seal Key has one of my favourite places to be in the entire planet. The single city on the island is one of the biggest on the planet, and is one of the most beautiful too. It was the first island I visited in the Northern Archipelago, and it certainly made a good impression.

Geography

Rocky Peaks

The rocky peaks on Seal Bay are visible from every single part of the island. The largest mountain range for miles and miles, the highest peak reaches 4,203 metres. These peaks are inhabited by several bird species which use the hights to spy on prey down below.
Some people even call the peaks homes, building small huts on the sides of the mountains where they grow fabled crops.

Worway Timbers

The Worway Timbers is a large forest located between the two drainage basins on the island. The forest is made of incredibly large worway trees, growing up to 200 feet. While the worway trees dominate the landscape, small bushes and short grasses grow everywhere the trees don't. Inside these bushes are dragon nests belonging to scissor-claws, dangerous pack hunting dragons that are very territorial during mating season but make great friends.

Southern Bay

Situated right on the south coastline of this island, Southern Bay is the largest bay on Seal Key. Along the west side of the bay is Silver City, the only settlement on Seal Key and one of my favourite places in the Northern Archipelago.
Every year, Southern Bay recieves a migrating flock of seals. To those in the audience that might be familiar with a certain type of seal, seals on Dracosei are large, fat reptiles that roll themselves on the beaches every winter and deflate, literally.

Fauna & Flora

There is a huge range of creatures on Seal Key, as it is a very big island. I've noted down at least thirty unique dragon species, a couple hundred plant species, and around three hundred other animal species.

Seal

As I so elegantly described, seals are large fat reptiles. During the summers, they slowly inflate themselves with air as they drift along the surface of the water, scooping up dislodged plant matter. They will follow currents north to Seal Key and rest on the shores during winters, where they will deflate and then migrate back south to restart the exact same process. I have absolutely no idea why they do this, and the inflated reptiles look in so much pain (they're actually not, I had a herpetologist very sternly inform me of this), but they are ADORABLE.

Ethereal Onion

Ethereal onions are one of the few rare crops grown by those living in the Rocky Peaks. The altitude at which they grow makes these plants hard to maintain, and the lack of space to even grow them makes them much harder to come across.
These onions are so expensive to taste I haven't had the chance; I have only seen a glimpse of them when climbing some of the peaks. The onions have a faint glow to them, similar to a dying night light - do not ask me how I know that. I do not want to talk about it.

Silver City

Ahh... Silver City. Truly one of the most grand and impressive places to visit on the planet. There's no end of unusual technologies, fancy clothes, lots of fancy clothes, and gorgeous architectures. One of the most interesting things about this city is that its architecture is nothing like anything else on the planet. Every building is made with bright green and turquoise materials, and there are hemispherical domes and spikes on just about every roof.
